Recipient verification

Check the name on a number or account before you pay it.

Paying the wrong number is the most common and most expensive mistake. Before the first payout to someone new, check the name on their account with POST /api/v1/recipients/verify.

Reading the answer

Result	Do
resolved true, name_match `matched`	Go ahead.
resolved true, name_match `mismatch`	Show the person the registered name and ask them to confirm before you pay.
resolved false	We couldn't get a name: the account may not exist, or the network doesn't share names for it. Confirm the details another way.

Names come as the network registered them, often upper case and with middle names. matched means every word of the shorter name appears in the longer one.

Limits and fair use

30 checks a minute per key; more get RATE_LIMITED with Retry-After.
Only check numbers people gave you. Many checks that don't resolve look like someone sweeping for valid accounts; that alerts our team and can get a key suspended.
Keep results only as long as you need them, under your privacy policy.
